Have you heard of the 30% rule? It’s a guideline that no more than 30 percent of a family’s income should go toward housing. Unfortunately, low-income families are often faced with spending 50 percent or more of their income on housing. Faith Community Homes, a charitable organization governed by a volunteer board of directors and staffed by professionals, attempts to fill the gap for qualified families by paying a portion of housing costs (rent) for two years. Additionally, families receive guidance from trained volunteer mentors who meet with them at least twice monthly for the entire time they are in the program. Faith Community Homes believes that by empowering parents with solid financial principles and crucial career-advancement and life skills, these parents can build personal and financial confidence and strength. This helps build stable households for happy families.
In partnership with governmental entities, churches, businesses and individuals, Faith Community Homes works to serve and empower low-income, working families in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, including those who reside and/or work in Arlington Heights and Palatine.
